LG G4 Mobile Phone Review and Battery life / specs

The LG G4 has a lot of competition. But it’s the best of the best. In the best of the best, each phone needs something to make it special. Just like the Samsung Galaxy S6, the LG G4 is an excellent phone. It has a stellar screen, a fantastic camera, and even features leather on its backside, which adds a nice aesthetic flair to the whole thing. There’s one downside, though, which is that for all its similarities with other premium releases, it’s not enough to make it stand out from the competition!

LG G4 Specifications:

LG’s G4 handset (H818N) comes with a 5.5-inch IPS Quantum display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and has a powerful Snapdragon 820 1.8GHz processor with 3GB of RAM. The device has 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded to 2TB, and a 16.0-megapixel rear camera, and an 8.0-megapixel front camera. A 3000mAh battery is included as well as a 3G and 4G SIM card. The device runs Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.

The price is often the first thing that comes to mind, but it’s more important whether the features on offer are appropriate for what you need/want to achieve. So let’s see if this phone has got what it takes to shine in the top category!

Performance:

On regular usage, the 3000mAh BL-51YF battery on this phone should last 8 hours. For power users, a charger or battery bank must be carried around. If you are worried that your top-of-the-line phone will keep running out of battery, carrying a charger around is somewhat pointless. Also, your phone won’t operate at its best. Its battery life is rated at 4hrs 55mn by the PC Mark test, which isn’t particularly impressive. Good battery life is especially important when you consider Sony’s Xperia Z3+. It’s certainly possible that it’s due to the LG G4’s Quad HD display compared to the Sony’s Full HD display, but that’s a brand decision.

Camera:

LG has loaded its phone with all the technology possible. Sixteen megapixels – the same as Samsung Galaxy S6 – are found in the back camera. It also has a better lens. It has an f/1.8 aperture. There is enough light, fast shutter speed, and it outperforms both the HTC One M9 (f/2.2) and the Samsung S6 (f/1.9) in this respect. Almost everyone believed that this would be the phone’s defining feature. Combine this with LG G4’s laser auto-focus, and you’ve got an intriguing combination. The focusing is often very quick.

While it is a good movie, one feels underwhelmed by its ending. A few pictures appear to be too sharp, which, once again, adds an unreal edge to it. You can choose from some camera settings, including simple, full manual, automatic, panorama, dual-mode, HDR, and more. A DSLR is as close to what you can get – only the lenses can’t be changed.

It’s quite remarkable how well the system performs in low light. However, once again, this sensor seems to receive too much light, which is unnatural. It’s not too noisy, which is a good thing. This camera is very good in both good and low-light conditions.

Display:

There is an oversaturation of colors. Reds seem a little over-the-top, and things generally stand out, which isn’t as natural as it should be. In contrast, if accuracy is not that important to you, the screen is brilliant. A comparison of the S6 and iPhone displays shows that they are both more accurate and natural-looking. However, it’s a distinct generation above the iPhone 5S (my current phone), which I almost stopped using for browsing and reading. The screen size might also be to blame, but this department has nothing to complain about.

Software:

We have no problems – everything works. Optimus UI makes the G4 standout, but does it make it better? Unfortunately, the answer is not what one might expect. It’s like it’s hiding all the advances of Android 5.1 under a “mask” to thwart the advancements. The number of widgets is still too high, and how much of them does one need? Does it work as well as Cyanogen? No. But, it doesn’t have the same problems as Cyanogen. There are always ways to change something on Android if it is not to your liking.

Build and Design:

The LG G4 was a brand new phone to me, so I did not have any reviews to compare it to. The placement of buttons has been the same on LG phones since the launch of the G2. Above and below the power button are volume rocker buttons. There are no buttons on the sides of the top. There is a 3.5mm audio jack and a micro USB port, but other than that, there is no additional hardware.

The phone is woken up by double-tapping the screen. When I saw a few colleagues struggling to locate the power button, it can pose a problem to first-time LG flagship phone users. Two weeks of using the phone, and I still haven’t quite gotten used to the button.

However, the leatherback feels wonderful to the touch. Comparing it to phones with a metallic or plasticky feel, this one has a nice, real feeling. When you hold the phone for extended periods, it gets better, but don’t expect the leather to get softer or better to keep as it ages – the leather has been thinned, which is a limitation of cellphone design. Different colors are present, but the tan stands out. Most likely, some will choose black to fit in. The battery can still be replaced if necessary, unlike the iPhone or S6.

Battery Life:

The phone is equipped with a 3000mAh BL-51YF battery, which should be able to last an 8-hour workday. When you are a power user, however, you need to bring the charger around with you. If you’re worried that your phone will run out of charge often, carrying a charger around is somewhat pointless. You are also prevented from using the phone to its maximum potential. The LG G4 battery scored 4h 55 minutes on the PC Mark test.

Final Words:

Leather back would be nice for a businessman, but better LG G4 battery life would be preferable. Despite loving the camera, the college-going student wouldn’t mind the leather back much. But the battery, once again, would become an issue. If you were sitting in the start of the race, would you rather be in a Ferrari that might run out of gas halfway or in a Maruti that could get you where you need to be. In our opinion, the G4 is a good product, but sadly, it isn’t the best, which is a fatal flaw at the very top.
